This pattern is the result of my sister asking for little crocheted butterflies. She had brought me a sample, a butterfly on a little girl's clippy. I had more fun making the stars than any of the other items that I made for her birthday.
These were made from scrap crochet thread (size 10). A perfect way of using up the extra crochet thread left over from a project. I used two colors: yellow and a white with gold filament.

Moon [updated Wednesday, August 19th, 2009]
The moon is worked starting on one tip and working down one side, making the tip of the moon. Then, without turning but working in stitches just made, working back down the other side and joining with the first tip of the moon made.
ch 11, sl st in third chain from hook (first tip of moon made), sc in next ch twice, skip next ch, sc in next ch, skip next ch, sc in next ch twice
To make the (second) pointed end of the moon: ch 3, sl st in third chain from hook
At this point we've done a row on one side of the original ch 11, now start working on the back of the initial ch 11: sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, 2 tr in next ch twice, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch. Join with sl st (which is part of the first tip of the moon), cut the thread and weave in end of thread.
I only post patterns that I have personally created. By all means, use them to make anything for yourself, your bff, your Aunt Clara (she did make you that nice bunny suit), the neighbor's dog or to line the bottom of your bird's cage. That's why I posted them. And since it never hurts to ask first, please shoot me an email, leave me a comment, or mail me a nice letter (bonus points will be awarded for pretty stationary, unique-yet-readable fonts, and complements of my children or pets) before using of any of my patterns for professional use. All this really means: don't use my work to make money without first asking me. I don't bite and I'm up-to-date with my rabies shots, so send that email on over and ask already.

If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you've made me smile,
the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.

Thank you for posting the Moon pattern. I'm using some glow-in-the-dark yarn and plan to hang them in dd's bedroom. I have a question:
In the first paragraph, after you sc in next ch twice, you write to "ch 3". It kind of looks like you would crochet in a new direction, away from the original ch 11 foundation.
Can you clarify this for me, a newbie in crochet? Thanks!
To answer your question without a picture will be hard. I'll make an attempt here but I may have to go back and just put in pictures.
The short answer is yes, in you will end up going back over what you just made.
Basically, the ch 3 will produce a chain away from the beginnings of the moon. It will initially be away from the initial ch 11 foundation. You are making the point of the moon here, so the next part (sl st in third chain from hook) brings you back to the point right before the 'ch 3' and right after the 'sc twice'.
The next set of instructions will, in fact, be worked over what you just finished.
I'll try to update the pattern to be a bit clearer. Thanks for your feedback!
Oops, never mind. Ijust figured it out. The kids were pretty excited to see it!
