Not sure why, but we didn't do anything about it {even though everyone came over on Easter} until now.
We found the bestest medicine cabinet ever made and brought it home last Sunday.
It was beautiful.
It was recessed so you could store even more in it!
Being recessed, that means we had to cut into the wall {duh!}. Now, our house is a custom home built by the first owner. We didn't know what would be behind the drywall.
Sadly, it was not good news.
First, they put the pipes at eye level {for me}. Nice.
Not movable. Nice.
Second, the framing was crazy. The wall was thicker than the boards used for framing so the vertical boards didn't touch the drywall in the bathroom. And that is why we have the horizontal board in front of the pipe {which is not connected to the vertical boards - who knows how it is attached}.
There was no way we could put the bestest medicine cabinet ever made in this bathroom {sadness}
So back to the home improvement store we go. This time we need to find one larger than the hole we just cut in the dry wall. There was a risk {if we couldn't find a replacement} that I might have to hang my small hand mirror in the hole in the wall.
We did find a second best fit. It looks very similar to the first one we choose, just a little less deep and a little bit bigger.
And with lots of work from my hubby who kept on working to install the cabinet late into the evening, we didn't have to hang the hand mirror as a substitute.
And best of all, it fits.
{Rule number 1: Don't mention that the cabinet is too big}
And, now there is a place for everything {and a door to close}.
Your life story would not make a good book. Don't even try.
